Friendly Crossways Wedding

If I gave awards to my couples, Danielle & Angel would win for DIY queens. I adore these two because they put so much thought into every aspect of their day (Danielle grew her own flowers, baked their cake, raised bees at home for fun), they're practical and no-nonsense gals, and they're super f'ing adorable. Combine their charm with the perfect New England farmhouse venue, and it's just too much. 

Bohemian Full Moon Wedding

Usually I meet and hangout with couples a couple times before their wedding, because getting to know people is crucial for the way I shoot. I didn't see Mikayla or Vinny until their special day, but it didn't matter. We were kindred spirits from the very first email. They planned their whole wedding in just a few months, and it was perfect - the same night as last September's full moon eclipse! 

Northern California // Wildforest Sanctuary

Last summer Kurtis and I had a wonderful trip to Northern California, camping a bit along the coast and visiting our friends at Wildforest Sanctuary, where we'd lived and worked in 2010-2011. Back then I gardened and took care of the animals, while Kurtis built a barn out of locally sourced materials (we milled the lumber ourselves, and he built this almost entirely solo and by hand!). It was so wonderful to be back in this magical space, where Melinda and Karl live off the grid with goats, gardens, chickens and an evolving bunch of helpers in the redwood forest. This place and its creatures will always be very special to me. I think the photos speak for themselves.

Three Sisters Sanctuary Wedding // Kendra & Charles

I probably overuse the word "magic." But if any place really deserves to be called "magical", it's the Three Sisters Sanctuary, an incredible healing garden created by environmental artist Richard Richardson (who also happens to be the groom's uncle). Photographing a wedding here was such a treat. And Kendra & Charles are so perfectly suited for such a space. Guarantee you haven't seen a wedding quite like this one before!

Woodsy Maine Engagement

I was honestly surprised I got any decent photos from this woodsy Maine engagement session, because the lushness and moss were so distracting! I was in heaven! Erica & Michael are my kinda people - artists living out of their beloved van, traveling around the country and planning for a laid-back autumn wedding in Maine later this year. Couldn't have asked for better adventure buddies!

The weird and wacky, ridiculously happy, unexpected and random little moments. Hugs, tears, laughter, wtf's. The ones I don't usually post or share. It's all here. These aren't the prettiest photos, but they're some of my favorite things to capture. This is why I'm a wedding photographer.

California // Rocky Coasts & Redwoods

Days after Kurtis and I were married, we drove to Northern California and spent a year caretaking on a homestead property in the middle of the redwood forest. Four years later, we made it back for a visit! Most of our trip was spent visiting our friends at the old homestead, but we had a few days to ourselves to explore the coast and camp (tentless!) along the way. The most amazing part of our trip was on Point Reyes, when I didn't use my camera but just soaked in the experience. All the photos here were taken along the coast in Sonoma and Mendocino counties. DIY Backyard Wedding

Amanda comes from what always seemed to me like a magical family. Four sisters! Who all look alike! Who are all creative and fun, athletic and artistic. All very talented and amazing ladies. I ran cross country and track with two of them wayyyy back when, and shared some of my favorite high school memories in their company. Amanda, youngest of the sisters, is a treasure. She has the sunniest personality, and it showed through in all aspects of this celebration. I didn't meet Matt until their wedding day. But I was immediately blown away by how crazy perfect they are for each other. His nickname is "Sunshine" for God's sake! I actually regretted that I hadn't known him as long as I'd known Amanda because he's one of the sweetest, most thoughtful guys I've ever met. During the father-daughter dance, he surprised her by performing the song himself. Damn, he's good.

I could go on forever about how I loved this wedding. Amanda's mother made her wedding dress and embroidered initials of all the bridesmaids among the leaves on the back. She also made Amanda's hairpiece, incorporating buttons from her own mother's old wedding gown.

Rustic Farm Wedding

There are few things I'll really miss about living in Taunton once I move to Maine next month. Kurtis and I are looking forward to a house on a lake, at the end of a dirt road, surrounded by hundreds of acres of woods. We're pretty excited! But we'll definitely miss our weekly produce share from Adam & Megan at Second Nature Farm. It's really the simple things in life that make me happy, and lately it's the abundance of fresh, organic, locally grown strawberries and greens, baby bok choy and melons, rainbow carrots and kale that I pick up every week from the hard-working, cheery folks at Second Nature. It's a privilege and a magical experience to participate in this small farm community. I'll admit my role is an easy one - I've no problem consuming the delicious fruits of their labor! When I heard Megan & Adam were getting married, I was really happy for them. And when they invited me to photograph the lovely occasion on their farm, I was freakin' thrilled.
